  5. ~1 THE "MOVIES AVAILABLE" SCREEN
  6. The upper right hand corner of the TV Screen displays
  7. the number of movies in this menu.
  8.  
  9. To read the information about a specific movie, type
  10. the first few letters of its title.  For example, to
  11. read about CASABLANCA type the letters  CASA.  When the
  12. title you want is highlighted, press ENTER to display
  13. the "Now Showing" screen.
  14.  
  15. You can also browse through the movie list with the Up
  16. and Down Arrow keys, or by scrolling the menu bar with
  17. your mouse.
  18.  
  19. Press the F2 key to perform a SEARCH.   The real power
  20. of this movie guide is found in its ability to help you
  21. search for particular types of movies.
  22.  
  23. To PRINT the information on a movie or group of movies,
  24. press the F7 key to MARK that movie, then press the
  25. F3 key to print the movies that are marked.
  26.  
  27. Press the F10 key to quit this program.
  28. ~2 MAIN SEARCH SCREEN
  29. Use the Arrow Keys to highlight the kind of search you
  30. want to do, then press ENTER.  To invoke the Search
  31. Routine press the F5 Find It! key.

  33. For example, find all the COMEDIES starring JOHN WAYNE:
  34.  
  35.     1.  Arrow over to the CATEGORY Icon on the "Ticket"
  36.         screen then press ENTER. from this menu.  When
  37.         the category menu appears, arrow over to the
  38.         COMEDY selection, then press ENTER.
  39.  
  40.     2.  Arrow over to the CAST Icon on the "Ticket"
  41.         screen, and press ENTER.  When the cast menu
  42.         appears, type Wayne, John then press ENTER.
  43.  
  44.     3.  The "Ticket" screen will reappear with a red
  45.         check mark on the Category and Cast Icons.
  46.         Press the F5 Find It! key.  The "TV" screen
  47.         will appear with a list of movies which
  48.         features John Wayne in a Comedy.
  49. ~3 CATEGORY SEARCH SCREEN
  50. This movie guide helps you search for movies which
  51. qualify in one, two, or three categories.  For example
  52. you can search for:
  53.    COMEDY                            (1 Category)
  54.    COMEDY and ROMANCE                (2 Categories)
  55.    COMEDY and ROMANCE and WESTERN    (3 Categories)

  57. 1st Example
  58. From the Category Menu, arrow over to the COMEDY icon
  59. and press ENTER.  When the "Ticket" screen appears,
  60. press the F5 Find It! key to search for ALL comedies.
  61.  
  62. 2nd Example
  63. From the Category Menu, arrow over to the COMEDY Icon
  64. and press F7 Mark.  Now arrow over to the FAMILY Icon
  65. and press the F7 Mark key.  A red check mark will now
  66. cover both the Comedy and Family Icons.  Press ENTER.
  67. When the "Ticket" screen appears press, F5 Find It! to
  68. search for all movies which are BOTH comedies AND
  69. family movies.

  71. ~4 REVIEW SEARCH SCREEN
  72. Movies in this software are categorized in one of three
  73. categories:
  74.     Good
  75.     Average
  76.     Poor
  77.  
  78. Movies categorized as Good are those movies which
  79. were in the Top 10 in box office sales, were nominated
  80. for or earned "Best Picture" by the Motion Picture
  81. Academy, or were enjoyed very much by the reviewer.
  82.  
  83. Average movies are generally enjoyable to watch but
  84. are weak in one way or another.
  85.  
  86. We have tried to keep as many Poor movies out of this
  87. movie guide as possible.  These movies have major flaws
  88. and generally should be avoided.

  90. Use the arrow keys to select either "Good", "Average"
  91. or "Poor", then press ENTER.  When the "Ticket" screen
  92. appears press the F5 Find It! key.
  93. ~5 ACTOR / ACTRESS SEARCH SCREEN
  94. To highlight the name of the actress or actor you want
  95. to search for, type the first few letters of their last
  96. name.  For example, to search for all Mel Gibson
  97. movies, type GIBS and arrow down to Mel Gibson's name
  98. and press the ENTER key.  At the "Ticket" screen, press
  99. the F5 Find It! key.

  101. You can also search for movies which have two actors or
  102. actresses.  For example, to find all movies with have
  103. BOTH John Wayne AND Maureen O'Hara:
  104.  
  105.     1) Highlight John Wayne's name (as described above)
  106.        and press the F7 Mark key.
  107.     2) Now highlight Maureen O'Hara's name and press
  108.        the F7 Mark key.
  109.     3) When you are done marking your selections, press
  110.        the ENTER key.
  111.     4) On the "Ticket" Screen, press F5 Find It!
  112.  
  113. All five movies where Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne
  114. appeared together will appear on the "TV" screen.
  115. ~6 DIRECTOR SEARCH SCREEN
  116. As a general rule, if you like a movie, you will enjoy
  117. other movies by the same director.  To find all the
  118. movies by a certain director, type the first few
  119. letters of the director's last name, Down Arrow until
  120. it appears on the screen.

  122. For example, to search for all Steven Spielberg movies,
  123. type SPIEL, and when you find his name, press ENTER.
  124. When the "Ticket" screen appears, press the F5 Find It!
  125. key to begin your search.

  137. ~7 "YEAR" SEARCH SCREEN
  138. The YEAR search is especially valuable for those who
  139. like "old movies" or "recent releases".
  140.  
  141. 1st Example
  142. To search for movies from 1990 to present, enter 90 and
  143. press the ENTER key (the automatic "TO" year is the
  144. present year).  Press F5 Find It! to begin the search.
  145.  
  146. 2nd Example
  147. To search for movies made in 1939, type 39, press the
  148. TAB key, type 39, then press ENTER.  Press F5 Find It!
  149.  
  150. 3rd Example
  151. To search for all the movies made in the 1950s, type
  152. 50, press the TAB key, type 59, then press ENTER.
  153. Press the F5 Find It! key to initiate the search.

  155. 4th Example
  156. To search for all movies made before 1940, delete the
  157. date in the "From Year", press TAB, type 39, then press
  158. ENTER.  Lastly, press the F5 Find It! key.
  159. ~8 MPAA RATING SEARCH SCREEN
  160. The MPAA rating has undergone several changes since it
  161. was established in the mid 1960s, but is still useful
  162. as a general guide.  Movies which were formerly rated
  163. "GP" we have rated "PG" and movies which received the
  164. "M" rating we rated "PG-13".  "X" rated movies and
  165. recent movies which were released in the movie theaters
  166. as "R", but came out in video as "Not Rated" to allow
  167. more sex or violence we have generally rated "NC-17".

  169. 1st Example
  170. To search for all "R" rated movies, Down Arrow to the R
  171. Icon then press ENTER.  Press F5 Find It! to search.

  173. 2nd Example
  174. To search for all "G", "PG" or "Not Rated" movies (the
  175. movies which contain the least amount of objectionable
  176. material)
  177.     1) highlight the "G" icon and press F7 Mark.
  178.     2) Mark "PG" and "Not Rated" the same way.
  179.     3) Press ENTER.
  180.     4) At the "Ticket" Screen, press  F5 Find It!
  181. ~9 KEY WORD SEARCH SCREEN
  182. The key word search is perhaps the most flexible and
  183. fun search of all because you can search for any word,
  184. or consecutive group of words, which appears in the
  185. synopsis or in any review.

  187. For example, to display the movies which had the
  188. highest box office gross each year, enter the key words
  189. Number 1, then press ENTER.  When the "Ticket" screen
  190. appears, press the F5 Find It! key.
  191.  
  192. Use the same method to search for Top 5 which will
  193. display the top five grossing movies of each year, and
  194. Top 10 to display the top ten grossing movies.

  197.                   COMBINING SEARCHES
  198.  
  199. Combine searches for even more power.  For example, to
  200. list movies released in 1990 which reached the Top 10
  201. in box office gross, combine a Key Word Search for
  202. Top 10 with a Year Search for 1990.

  204. NOTE:  Some of the movies released in 1990 sold most of
  205. their tickets in 1991.  This was the case with DANCES
  206. WITH WOLVES which was released in 1990 but was the
  207. number 6 grossing movie in 1991.  HOME ALONE was the
  208. number 3 grossing movie in BOTH 1990 and 1991.  Because
  209. of this, searching for Top 10 in any one given year
  210. won't always list exactly 10 movies on the screen.

  212. Here's how to find the movies released in 1990 which
  213. made the top 10:
  214.  
  215.     1) At the "Ticket" screen Down Arrow to the
  216.        Key Word Icon, and press ENTER.
  217.  
  218.     2) Type the phrase Top 10 in the field on the
  219.        "Candy Bar" screen, then press ENTER.  The
  220.        "Ticket" screen will appear and a red check mark
  221.        will cover the Key Word Icon.

  223.     3) Arrow over to the Year Icon and press ENTER.
  224.        The "Cup" screen will appear.

  308. Press the Up Arrow to move to the previous movie, and
  309. the Down Arrow to move to the next movie.  Press the F4
  310. key to read a review on this movie.  ESC closes this
  311. screen

  313. If you have a MOUSE you can also do the following
  314. searches from this screen:
  315.  
  316. KEY WORD SEARCH Click the mouse on any word, or between
  317. any two words to start a key word search.
  318.  
  319. ACTOR SEARCH Click the mouse on the name of any actor
  320. or actress to search for all the movies which star that
  321. person.  If there is a photo stored for this actor it
  322. will be displayed on the screen.

  324. DIRECTOR SEARCH Click the mouse on the director's name
  325. to search all movies which star this director.
  326.  
  327. CATEGORY SEARCH  Click the mouse on any of the
  328. categories displayed on this screen to search for all
  329. movies which belong to this category.
  330. ~11 COMMENT
  331. This software allows you to enter your own, 20
  332. character note about each movie.  You can use this
  333. special field for the following reasons:
  334.     1) To catalog your video collection
  335.     2) To mark the movies you want to see
  336.     3) To mark the movies your children want to see
  337.     4) To mark the movies you have seen
  338.     5) To mark your favorite movies
  339.     6) To mark movies you want to avoid in the future
  340.  
  341. 1st Example
  342. To mark movies in your personal video collection, enter
  343. TAPE NUMBER XXXX in each movie in your collection using
  344. the F6 Notes key at the NOW SHOWING screen.  After you
  345. have done this to several movies, search for the words
  346. TAPE NUMBER using the "My Notes" Search at the "Ticket"
  347. Screen.  A list of all the movies in your personal
  348. library will be displayed on the screen, marked, and
  349. ready to print.

  353. 2nd Example
  354. When you come across a movie you want to see, use the
  355. F6 Notes key at the NOW SHOWING screen to enter your
  356. initials, followed by "want to see".  This way you will
  357. have stored notes such as MJP want to see, JLP want to
  358. see, and Kids want to see that you can search for.
  359.  
  360. Before you go to the video store, search for the words
  361. want to see using the My Notes Search at the "Ticket"
  362. Screen.  All the movies your family wants to see will
  363. be listed on the screen, and marked for printing.
  364. Print the list with the F3 Print key and take it with
  365. you to the video store.  Keep your current want to see
  366. list handy for last minute trips to the video store.
  367.  
  368. 3rd Example
  369. After you have seen a movie, enter Saw XX/XX/XX (date).
  370. This will help keep you from renting movies you have
  371. already seen.

  374. ~12 PRINTER
  375. Down Arrow to the movie you want to print and press the
  376. F7 Mark key.  To print it, press the F3 Print key.
  377.  
  378. More often you will print a list of movies after doing
  379. a search.  On the "Ticket" screen, after you press the
  380. F5 Find It! key, a list of the movies that the computer
  381. found in its search will be displayed on the "TV"
  382. screen.  A small check mark will appear at the right
  383. side of the title of each movie listed, and indicates
  384. that the computer is ready to print this movie.  Press
  385. the F7 Mark key to Mark / Unmark movies that you want
  386. to print.

  388. You can print movie information in three formats:
  389.  
  390.     1) 50 Movies Per Page  This prints the Title, the
  391.        Year, and your personal notes on a single line.
  392.  
  393.     2) 3 Movies Per Page  This prints the title,
  394.        director, actors, year, MPAA rating, and your
  395.        personal notes.
  396.  
  397.     3) 1 Movie Per Page  This prints all the
  398.        information stored about this movie on a page.
  399.  
  400. A few suggestion on how to use print your print outs:
  401.  
  402.     1) Use the 50 Movies Per Page option to print an
  403.        alphabetical list of your video collection.
  404.  
  405.     2) Use the 3 Movies Per Page to print a list of
  406.        movies you would like to see to take to your
  407.        video store.  Remember to keep this list in your
  408.        car so you will always have it when you decide
  409.        to rent a movie at the last minute.
  410.  
  411.     3) If you loan movies to your friends, be sure to
  412.        use the F6 Notes key at the NOW SHOWING screen
  413.        to enter a note similar to Loaned to Joan and
  414.        print a list for your records.
  415.  
  416.     4) Keep a list for your insurance records.  This
  417.        suggestion comes from one of our users in
  418.        Florida who survived Hurricane Hugo.
